Kala patthar is the best scenic point of the Khumbu Himalayas. Literally, Kala Patthar means "the black rock" in Nepali and Hindi that lies on the south ridge of Pumori above Gorakshep. This is popular among the trekkers since it provides the closeup 360 degree views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Kantenga, Thamserku, Pumori, Lhotse Nuptse and Changtse.

Trekking Route

Trek to Kala Patthar begins at Gorakshep (5164m), the original base camp for Mount Everest. For the best visibility of the Khumbu Himalayas, ascending of Kala Patthar is done during the trek to Everest Base Camp. The full ascent takes 1.5 to 2 hours to reach Kala Patthar from Gorakshep. If the starting point will be from Lobuche, it takes 2-3 more hours to take a full ascent.
