Slovak mountaineer dies on Mt Everest
A mountain climber from Slovakia dies on Mt. Everest due to severe altitude sickness on Sunday afternoon. According to the Base Camp officials, he was died near South Col and the deceased has been identified as Vladimir Strba (50).
Vladimir felt sick near balcony area and was descended to South Col by fellow climbers but he passed away immediately after.
Earlier, an American climber died and an Indian mountaineer has gone missing from the balcony area as over 100 climbers attempted to climb the world’s highest peak on Sunday morning.
I met Vladimir briefly, as he was staying at the same Tea House in Gorek while he was doing some preparatory climbing in the region before going to Base Camp for the Everest Trek. We chatted briefly over breakfast one morning late in March. He was determined and confident and looked forward to his climb. He clearly was doing what he loved. May he rest in peace.
